Picture-in-Picture fails when returning to home screen

PiP works correctly with Samsung One UI Home and Microsoft Launcher, but when Niagara is the default launcher, Pluto TV closes instead of entering Picture-in-Picture when returning to the home screen. The user reports similar behavior with other media apps as well.

  • Set Niagara Launcher as the default launcher.

  • Open Pluto TV and start playing a video.

  • Return to the home screen.

  • Instead of entering PiP mode, Pluto TV closes.

One UI: 8.5

Two things from the board that aren't visible from inside this thread. First, the same case is already posted: Problem with PiP mode from two days ago, also a Galaxy A57 with Pluto TV on 1.16.28, with YouTube working and Pluto TV closing.

Second, counting both of those there are now five picture-in-picture threads on the board, and every single one is a Samsung: Video call picture in picture not working (S25 Ultra), WhatsApp picture in picture not working (S23), Media Picture in Picture jot working (S26 Ultra) and the two A57 reports. Three of the four older ones answered "Problem occurs with other Launchers: No". So the shared factor looks like One UI plus a third-party launcher rather than Pluto TV.

A workaround the S25 Ultra poster describes, in case it's any use to the affected user: leave the playing app through a notification or the settings app instead of swiping straight home. PiP engages that way, and it stays up after switching over to the Niagara home screen.
