Smart Categorization & Dual Layout View: Eliminating App-Name Recall
Summary
Add an optional smart categorization system alongside a dual layout toggle. Searching for apps currently relies heavily on remembering exact app names—a significant usability barrier for users with large app libraries or difficulty recalling specific titles.
User Feedback
I just purchased Niagara Pro Lifetime yesterday! I am thoroughly enjoying the clean design and smooth user experience so far, but I’d like to suggest an improvement that would make navigation even more effortless.
The Problem
Niagara’s minimalist design and search bar excel when you know exact app names. However, relying purely on text search or full alphabetical scrolling requires explicit name recall. For many users, remembering the exact name of every installed utility, banking app, or background tool is frustrating and impractical. Users often remember an app by its function (e.g., "that local taxi app" or "my bank app") rather than its specific brand name.
Proposed Solutions
1. Smart Categorization & Functional Grouping
Auto-Grouping: Automatically organize apps into logical functional groups (e.g., Banking & Finance, Social, Navigation, Utilities).
Search by Category/Tag: Allow users to locate apps by browsing functional folders or searching broad terms (e.g., typing "bank" highlights all financial apps, regardless of their actual names).
Customization: Full support for manual re-categorization, custom tags, and folder renaming.
2. Dual Layout Switcher
Two-Mode Toggle: A quick toggle in settings (or via gesture) to switch between two distinct usage modes:
Minimalist View: The classic, distraction-free Niagara list with daily favorites.
Categorized View: A structured view organized by app functions for quick browsing without needing to remember app names.
Layout Memory: Maintain independent configurations for both layouts so switching views never disrupts custom favorite arrangements.
Why this fits Niagara
Niagara is built for speed and efficiency. Reducing the mental friction of remembering exact app names makes navigation significantly faster and more intuitive, expanding accessibility while preserving Niagara’s signature aesthetic.

Thanks, that's a well-argued post. There are two separate ideas in it though: automatic category grouping with category search, and the dual layout switcher. Could you split them into one post each? We work through requests roughly by upvotes, and a bundle can only collect votes as a whole, so each idea does better on its own (How To Request a Feature).
The categorization half already has posts you can upvote instead: Category / Automatic folders and Allow ability to search by app categories. The dual layout toggle with its own saved configuration is the part that has no post yet, so that one is worth its own.
