GIF Wallpaper support

Feature Request

Currently the only mainstream app that adds support for gif wallpapers is ad heavy or very expensive. Depending on the software, videos can be set as lock screens but not home screens, and neither support .gif.

Thanks for the suggestion! Nothing on the board covers this one yet. The closest posts are Request for a Dynamic live wallpaper feature (a wallpaper that changes with weather, time and season) and Dynamic Wallpapers + Niagara Interaction (animations reacting to Niagara's own gestures), so "play a .gif as the wallpaper" stands on its own here.

Worth knowing in the meantime: Niagara does not set the wallpaper itself, it shows whatever Android has set system wide, so whatever a wallpaper app puts there also appears behind Niagara's home screen. The wallpapers we curate ourselves are static images and live under Niagara Settings > Themes > Create Theme (Niagara Launcher's Wallpapers).

Requests don't usually get an individual reply from the team right away. They collect votes here first, and we work through them roughly by upvotes, so every vote on this post moves it up the list. You'll be notified when its status changes. How requests are handled, including why some get declined: How To Request a Feature.
