Enhanced shutdown

Hello. I am a Pro subscriber. I like your minimalist launcher, but the design lacks harmony in one specific area. Currently, the screen turns off when I double-tap the alphabet bar; it feels like an unfinished feature. I would prefer to turn off the screen by tapping an empty area or a semi-transparent button. I don't want to have to tap the alphabet bar on the right. In fact, I don't want to see the alphabet at all when I don't need it—including when I'm turning off the screen. Alternatively, if you keep the double-tap-to-turn-off function, please ensure the alphabet doesn't pop up when I do it. The alphabet should only appear when I swipe up or down—when I actually need it—not when I'm turning off the screen.

Thanks, that is a clear write-up. One thing that might already help today: the quick lock gesture is not limited to the alphabet on the right. A double tap on the screen's left side works too, so you can lock without reaching across. It is mentioned in Double Tap to Sleep.

Why it sits on the alphabet rather than on any empty area is explained in that same article: if a double tap anywhere on the home screen or app list could lock the phone, Niagara would have to wait after every tap to see whether a second one follows, and every app launch would get slower. That is the stated reasoning rather than a verdict on your post; the team decides what happens with it.

Your second point, the alphabet appearing while you perform the gesture, already has its own post you can upvote: Double tap screen lock update. We work through requests roughly by upvotes, so a vote there is the most direct way to push that part.
